Decorating your home becomes a true statement of identity, style, and authenticity.
Our approach
Through our travels, stories, moments of sharing, and discoveries.
Curiosity about others, about the Other, a taste for beauty, for beautiful, natural materials.
To marvel, to get excited, to be inspired by the best craftsmanship, by handmade items, and to value the human behind the object.
Empires loves beautiful encounters.
Constantly inspired by travel, our creations favor the combination of prints with rich and vibrant patterns with the most exclusive character pieces.
The selection of noble and natural materials—silk velvet, silk, wool, linen, embroidery, leather, wood, ceramics—constitutes so many creative mediums rooted in the influences of the arts and cultures of the world that we are passionate about sharing.
It was therefore essential for us to surround ourselves with the most talented artisans to ensure the creation, in the tradition, of all our pieces.
Our creations, designed in France, are entirely handcrafted in workshops in France, Portugal, Spain, and Italy, as well as in Morocco, Turkey, and Uzbekistan for the more distant ones.
Our iconic textiles
The Ikats
Handwoven in Uzbekistan's fertile Ferghana Valley, Ikat fabrics, which we hold particularly dear, alone symbolize the rich heritage of the country's textile production.
Ikat is a very ancient dyeing process where threads are tie-dyed before weaving into fabric. By extension, the word also refers to the resulting fabric. It can be made from silk velvet and silk for the most noble ones, or cotton.
This artisanal practice is found in Central and Latin America, Mallorca, Uzbekistan, and other Asian countries.
The term Ikat comes from Indonesian, meaning to tie or bind; in Uzbek, it could be translated as cloud. Indeed, all ikats are recognizable by a distinctive visual character that conveys an internal energy to the fabrics. The figures or contours of ikat patterns develop blurred shapes: they vibrate.
Ikats, fabrics of life
Ikat,
on the threads, the color dyed, reserved.
On the threads, the alphabet of patterns and figures.
Ikat,
the long time of memories and cultures, life-bearing textiles.
Portuguese Woolens
Whether they come from Alentejo or Serra da Estrela in northern Portugal, all our woolens are handwoven by master weavers from merino wool or pure virgin sheep wool, respecting the Portuguese weaving tradition.
Traditionally used to make warm and waterproof cloaks to protect generations of shepherds from the harsh winters as they roamed the mountains of central and northern Portugal, these textiles were originally woven in natural colors, black or brown, with simple patterns.
Later, developed for decorative use and as true objects of social prestige, they were gradually made from higher quality wools in bright colors evocative of the spring landscapes of Alentejo.
These marvels of craftsmanship, virtuously made, are now experiencing a renaissance, adorned in the most sophisticated colors.
It is unthinkable for Empires not to honor these true works of art, which require days and, in some cases, weeks to make.
We have therefore chosen to embrace these sublime creations. They will elegantly and authentically adorn our finest lamps and will also be featured in our small furniture and accessories, bringing warmth, joy, and personality to interiors.
